They Belong

Phoebe, Judy, Adam, Josiah, Lisa, William

James 1:27
Pure and undefiled religion in the sight of God and our Father is to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself unstained by the world.
(emphasis mine)

Yesterday I posted about how we all belong to God. It is true for the estimated 147 million orphans in the world also. The bible is ancient. It was written thousands of years ago. Did you know it has specific instructions on how to treat orphans? There are three groups of people mentioned over and over in the bible, the widow, the alien, and the orphan. Yes, thousands of years ago God left us an instruction manual for life. He included everything we ever need to know including how to treat orphans.

They are the most vulnerable population in this world. They cannot speak for themselves, clothe themselves, feed themselves, or protect themselves. Some are lucky enough to end up in a loving orphanage where their basic needs are met and they are loved. Most are not. All need homes. All children deserve a family.

We all can do something. If you read this today will you pray for the children pictured above that do not have families? If your like us your left feeling like there is more we can do. We have so much. They have so little. What will you do today?

Here's how you can help:

Sponsor orphans and help provide for their care

Pray for them

Tell others about them

Adopt

Help others adopt

Take a trip to work in an orphanage

Become a foster parent or offer respite care to foster parents

Adopt a child in foster care

Start an Orphan's Ministry at your church

So maybe there is something on that list that you can do. The reason God calls caring for orphans pure and undefiled is because they can not repay you for what you do for them. It is just giving without anything in return. It is by far the best thing you will ever do.

Blessings to you!
