Three Months Ago Today....

...we saw our son for the first time.

He was carried down the stairs after his nap...

and placed in my arms.

He called me Mama and reached for me.

We were both nervous but neither of us was afraid.

He called Greg Baba and reached for him also.

Yes three months ago all our lives changed for the better.

It feels like we have been calling him son for much longer than just three months.

Blessings to you!

You're never too old to learn something new. My friend Kim and I and Kim's brother Chris set out to learn how use our digital SLR cameras. We took a great basic photography course through Osborne Photography. It was well worth the $50.00 for the 2 1/2 hour course. We learned so much and I am having so much fun experimenting with my photos.

We learned about ISO, shutter speed and aperture also called f stops. We learned how to better compose our shots by filling the frame with our subject or using the rule of thirds and not placing our subject in the middle of the frame.

Basically, ISO is your film speed. When you used to go to the drugstore and by 200 or 4oo film speed that is the same as ISO and you use it the same way. To change the ISO push the ISO button and then use the arrows to change to the speed you need for your conditions. Mostly you will shoot with an ISO of 400.

Shutter Speed is used to stop motion. The faster the shutter speed the more you are able to stop motion. The slowest shutter speed to stop motion is 1/250.

Aperture is the amount of exposure or light allowed into the camera. The higher the aperture the more depth of field, the lower the aperture the less depth of field. If you want your rows of flowers to all be in focus raise your aperture. If you want the flowers closet to you in focus and the background blurred lower your aperture.

I also learned I will probably never get a great football shot of my boys under the Friday night lights unless I buy a new, very expensive lens. Like I said I will never get a good shot. I did learn how to stop the motion in a sports picture by changing my shutter speed. I can't wait for football season to try it out. It is about the only time my teenage boys want me to take their picture.

Remember I have had one basic class for 2 1/2 hours. I am sharing what I learned for those of you who asked but I know very little. I would recommend a class for anyone wanting to learn how to take better pictures.

Anyway, I love taking pictures of the kids and hopefully now I will get even better shots. We are signing up for the intermediate class next month.

If you have any tips for me about photography please leave them in the comments section.

Blessings to you!

Set Me Free!

These piggies need to be set free.
They need a bath really really bad.

His cast comes off one week from today.

So we decided to sign it yesterday.
Adam wasn't thrilled at first.

Then he thought all the attention was fun!

I can't wait to put this kid down in a bath tub!

Blessings to you!

Sweet Adam

Happy Sunday!

If you read my blog and have never clicked on the Sunday Snapshot icon I would encourage you to do so.

You will be at Ni Hao Y'all- Stefanie's blog. She has a huge heart for orphans.

I think you will really enjoy reading about her family.

Last week I took a photography class. I learned so much. And from reading Stefanie's blog I learned about Lightroom for editing photos. My dear hubby downloaded a free 30 day trial of Lightroom. We are having so much fun experimenting with our photos.

Next week I will show you the photos we edited along with the info I learned from my basic photography class. If you live in the Charlotte area I highly recommend Brian Osborne of Osborne Photography if you interested in learning how to get out of auto mode on your digital SLR. I talked Sammy into being my model while I practiced. She loved it and wants to do it again. I will never be at a loss for a subject when she is around.

Blessings to you!

Horse Crazy

Our horse crazy girl...

and her favorite horse Cody....

competed in a horse show today.

She was number 190 in a walk/ trot class.

She loves showing horses.

This was her third show.

What is that in her hand?

Oh yes, a first place ribbon!

Some last minute advice from her trainer.

She finishes with a reserve, a first place and a third place.

She is a horse crazy girl. She has done a horse camp for the the past several summers. She has always asked to to take lessons but we felt like we didn't have the time. She dances ballet two nights a week and also dances in the Nutcracker every year. However, when some lessons opened up right down the road (less than two minutes from our house) we couldn't say no.
So now we have a horse crazy girl who loves to show horses.

Of course she wants a horse of her own.

She got a little brother instead.

Blessings to you!

AFO's Baby!

Waiting to be seen.
Getting fitted for his right AFO.

I love them. They are so cool!
They have cars on them.

Soon I will get fitted for the left one.

I get my cast off in just a little bit.

I really like my new AFO's.

We meet with Adam's doctor next Tuesday to discuss untethering surgery for his spine.

Have a fabulous Friday.
We have a horse show with AK in the morning.
I will post pictures of our horse crazy girl at the show tomorrow.

Blessings to you!

Fly Fishing 101

The beautiful mountains of North Carolina.

The Natahala River is full of trout.

The Nantahala Lake is also full of fish.

So what is this motley crew to do?

Go fishing of course!

This was their 2nd annual Easter Weekend fishing trip.

They caught lots and lots of fish!
(at least that's their story and they are sticking to it)

Blessings to you!
