Last Update tonight- We are so tired but finally in a room. It is not our regular room but a step down room, one step down from ICU. We will move to a regular room in the morning.
Dr. Fuchs said his spine was very tightly tethered with scar tissue from the surgery he had in China. He said it was tethered much higher than he thought it should be. He went in at L3 expecting to find healthy tissue but it was tethered tightly at L3. Dr. Fuchs said it was a challenge and very delicate separating nerves from scar tissue. He also found old sutures in the Lipoma. He was very confused about what they actually did in China. He said it was interesting to say the least.
We are so happy with our decision to come to Duke and with Dr. Fuchs. Let the healing begin!
Update # 5- We are done!!!! It was a success. He is detethered completely and nerve function appears to be better than it was prior to starting the operation. That is the current running through the nerves is improved. That may or may not mean that his function and ability is improved but it does mean no further damage was done during surgery. We are so thankful. I will give more details once we are settled in our room. Praise God it is done.
Update # 4- Hour three is down. We are half way there! Got the call that things are going smoothly. Answered prayer.
Update # 3- Hour two is done. We just got the call from the OR that everything is fine. I wish I could get some details about the surgery but I would rather have the Dr. focused on Adam than his worried mom. We spent the first hour getting some lunch in the cafeteria and hour two has been spent reading, listening to my ipod and watching Greg sleep. Only 4 more hours to go!
Update #2- We just got a call from the OR that things are going fine. I was hoping for a little more than that but I guess that is better than nothing. Surgery started at 12:49. One hour down.
With his new Thomas. He loves it!
Hanging with mommy.
He was so brave this morning!
Update # 1- Adam is in the OR. I was able to stay with him until he was asleep. We are behind schedule and we are still waiting for word that they have actually started. He did great. Thank you for the prayers. We can feel them. Greg and I are doing fine too. From the time they start it should take 6 hours.
We are here and in pre-op. I will do our first update around 11:45. His operations starts at 10:45.
Thanks for the prayers.
